What a lovely weekend at Wilderness and Wickham - and it was great to see so many familiar faces. Our next foray will on the Bank Holiday weekend, first to the Harpenden Folk, Roots and World Music Festival and then to Graze Festival on the beautiful Twyford downs, near Winchester. We’ve been slowly introducing new material into our sets and we are going into the studio in October to start recording our new album. If you join our mailing list, we’ll keep you abreast of our progress, including exclusive videos musical snapshots…Just fill out the form on the top-right of the page. In the meantime, enjoy the sun! Wilderness and More
This month, we've been mostly been listening to Alabama Shake's new album Sound and Color http://www.alabamashakes.com/, Miles Davis' Dark Magus and Cameroonian synth magic, courtesy of Francis Bebey (https://www.discogs.com/artist/181285-Francis-Bebey) Somehow, this all seeps into the music writing pot, so it'll be interesting to see what comes out on the plate. We're definitely going through a purple patch right now and you'll start to hear new material in our forthcoming sets. Sooooo....Looking forward to Lincoln on 31st July.... ...then onto Wilderness, where we will be playing on the Friday in the Folkbarn around 5pm. Dan's then nipping off to play with the wonderful Lady Nade (http://www.ladynade.co.uk/) on Saturday, returning to join us at Wickham Festival 1pm-ish on the Sunday at the All Time Greats Stage. Hopefully see you there, there and there..... xxx
Songwriting for the new album continues and we plan to be in the studio later in the summer. Some of our new material will start to appear on our live shows, so your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Our first summer foray will be to the Lincoln folk festival on 31st July. We will also be playing at Wilderness and Wickham festivals in the first weekend of August - please go to our 'Gigs' page for more details.
A new year, a new album
A rather damp and gloomy January heralded the untimely passing of too many great artists, leading one to inevitably reflect on life and death, the rapid passing of time and other such things. Conversely, these circumstances can also provoke creative impulses and our first rehearsals for the new Polly and the Billets Doux album have yielded rich rewards. Over the coming months, we will spending a lot of time writing and 'wood-shedding', weaving new songs together and testing them in front of a live studio audience. We also have great festival shows in 2016, including Wilderness in Oxford and Wickham in Hampshire. It also looks like we'll be playing at Glastonbury this year. Exciting times!
Playing through the end of the summer
We great day at the Bert Jansch foundation festival at the beautiful Bell Inn, Ticehurst. An opportunity to pay tribute to musical inspiration. Steeny and I bumped into him at the Cambridge Folk Festival several years ago, before he passed away. A very modest chap, who could still seriously rip it up on stage! Summer is drawing to a slightly damp close, but we look forward to an Autumn of adventures. Check out our gig listings for events near you xxxxx
Smoked and Uncut
Following a gig in the lovely Limetree Hotel, the Smoked and Uncut team filmed us performing an acoustic version of Stories. In view of limited space, Dan joined in on Latin "Hips" percussion.
Highlights from our Germany Tour
We have an exciting 2015, with plenty of music writing, video making, touring, partying, hangover nursing, late night service stations, jamming with friends, hill walking and...um...much, much more... Please see our Gigs page for details of shows in 2015. More announcements due shortly...watch this space Love Polly and the Billets Doux
